PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS WITH … LaSHONDA KATRICE BARNETT

In 5 words or less, what do you think about…

George Bush?
I can’t think about him; it’s agonizing.

Bill Clinton?
Charisma galore.

Malcolm X?
Intrepid thinker.

Oprah?
Phenomenal! Can’t wait to meet her.

What is your airplane ritual? IPod? Sleep? Sweat Pants? Alcohol? Spill the beans.
My flight equation: Ipod + good novel (or the Wall Street Journal) + Bloody Mary with double shot of vodka = bliss.

What is your favorite tune to sing in the shower?
Can’t narrow this to one song. Any jazz standard, typically something written by Irving Berlin or Johnny Mercer.

What is your favorite American city?
It’s a tie between New York City and San Francisco.

Any tattoos?
Yes (former lovers know what and where).

What do you think about interracial relationships?
The human heart is color blind.

Who is the biggest influence in your personal life?
My grandmother, Helen Jean Williams.

What is on your Tivo right now?
Okay, don’t tell anybody but “Guiding Light,” the oldest daytime soap opera. As a child I watched it religiously with my grandmother. Some of our greatest conversations happened around Big Mama watching “her stories.” Even now that she has passed away, I watch them as a reminder of our little ritual.

Obama or McCain?
I’m sorry, I only see one choice here: Obama!

What frightens you?
Not fulfilling the promise of my life, not living up to my potential.

Shout out the website for a cause/issue that’s close to your heart.
Multiple Sclerosis was the disease my grandmother fought for many years with dignity, courage and grace.

The National MS Society is an organization close to my heart because they were always a great resource for her. There is still no cure for MS and many of the monies donated are allocated for important medical research.
