HOT CONCERT REVIEW:
JULIE DEXTER AND HESTON

Recently, I took a brief trip down to Atlanta in part to get away and also to see Julie Dexter and Heston in concert. Ya’ll know that I travel up and down the East Coast in a New York minute for a show. Besides, airfares have been fairly reasonable lately and I’m blessed to have people down there I could crash with.

UNDERRATED SOUL SINGER SPOTLIGHT: DEBORAH BOND

I vividly remember the first time I saw DC-based songstress Debórah Bond perform live. It was back around 2004 and I was just starting to sporadically attend live shows. I was at a spot called Takoma Station and she performed several songs from her debut album, “Day After.”

DON’T SLEEP ON CHRISETTE MICHELE

Recently, I was invited to attend an industry event where Chrisette Michele was performing in support of her sophomore effort, “Epiphany.”

GET TO KNOW FOREIGN EXCHANGE

One of the albums that I have had in constant rotation since it was released in October 2008 is Foreign Exchange’s second release, “Leave It All Behind.”

HIDDEN TREASURES…

Recently, I was blessed to check out uber musician and producer Mark de Clive-Lowe accompanied by the smooth vocals of Vanessa Freeman (of Reel People) as they neared the finish line of their world tour.

GET TO KNOW LAURA IZIBOR

Every once in a while an artist comes who gives you “that” feeling.
I remember having “that” feeling the first time I pressed play on “Who Is Jill Scott?”
Now I’m by no means comparing Jill and Laura Izibor musically. While I do hope that Laura has even half the success that Jill has had and [...]

REMEMBER BILAL?

You asked and it’s my duty to answer.
Last week’s spotlight on Leon King, who cites Bilal as one of his influences, caused Tristian to ask, “Where is Bilal?” Since I consider myself to be the president and CEO of his stan association, I am all too happy to answer!
For those that have never heard of [...]

THE LEON KING

One of the great things about being a music blogger – or even a blogger in general – is that it brings all kinds of people into your circle. One of my favorite readers is from the UK and we have become fast friends and music-swapping buddies almost from the moment he [...]

GEARING UP FOR THE GRAMMYS

Are you ready for the Grammy Awards this coming Sunday? Are some of your favorite artists and songs nominated?
We are particularly excited here in D.C. as there are a couple of underrated local artists among the nominees. I’m shining the spotlight on them this week.
Wayna is an Ethiopian-born singer/songwriter artist who released her [...]

GET TO KNOW LIV WARFIELD

I recently put together a list of my most highly anticipated albums of 2009, and a wish list of artists that I hope to see projects from this year. After seeing Liv Warfield live for the first time last Fall, she was an immediate addition, and I am keeping vigil for news about her [...]
