FALL BACK, CATCH UP!
With less than two weeks to the election and all the debates over I can FINALLY catch up on a few things entertaining (or not) this fall. Let’s get started!
I could not wait for Grey’s Anatomy to come back. It’s one of my favorite hour dramas where the off screen drama is sometimes equal to, if not more compelling than, the show itself. Last season ended with Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) candle lit outline of the house she and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) would build. It was perfect. If you had any doubts about the show being able to hit the emotional bulls eye, the writers and cast let you know they still got “the magic”. Then in the off season, Katherine Heigl announced she would remove herself from Emmy consideration because she felt the material she was given didn’t “warrant” a nomination. Wow. All I can say to executive producer Shonda Rhimes is with friends like these…you know the rest.
Over all, this season Grey’s is still strong. There are a few areas of concern. Derek and Meredith need to be on or off for more than one episode. I feel like Christina (Sandra Oh) who’s just tired of the same old story. I’m more interested in the problems of a complicated relationship than I am over the decision to even be in a relationship. There’s a fine line between my pulling for them and beginning not to care. The same could be said of Alex (Justin Chambers) who had become so mean that it was making him unlikeable. Again, there’s a fine line between being the emotionally detached “bad boy” women love to a plain old jerk. It looks like they’re going to pull back on the hostility and get back to the Karev we like.
I’d like to see Christina get a story arc that goes beyond one episode. Her attraction to the army doctor was great…but gone. She was distracted by dermatology and “rubbing”…now gone. Since the departure of Burke (Isaiah Washington) Christina needs more of a life because Sandra Oh is terrific.
I could be the only one (I doubt it) but if Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) husband cut her loose and the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) wife cut him loose, isn’t that an office romance we’d all like to see? In a hospital filled with doubt, chaos and raging hormones, a convergence of the two voices of reason and stability as well as two of my favorite actors would be fun to watch.
Torres (Sara Ramirez) is a mystery to me. She’s gone from chasing George (T.R. Knight) to marrying him, to divorcing him, to sleeping with Sloan (Eric Dane) to beginning a lesbian relationship with Hahn (Brooke Smith) in less than three seasons!
In the end, Grey’s always delivers at least one homerun. George bringing the little boy into the wrong operating room was great. Sloan had been beating up on Lexie (Chyler Leigh) only to tell her if George didn’t like her back he was an idiot. Great. Those are the jewels that keep me coming back.
I’m so backed up and running out of space so here’s my version of Cliff Notes on the rest of what I’m watching;
Heroes has completely jumped the shark for me. I mean off my Tivo list, Fredo Corleone dead to me.
Survivor is boring! = After last season Fans vs. Favorites, this group just isn’t compelling. I’m still hoping it will get better. They need a romance or a total tribal meltdown!
Amazing Race. Amazing as always.
Lipstick Jungle is solid but far too many things going on. Each character has two storylines each week! I want them to slow down and take their time!
Chuck, good fun. Love it.
Dirty Sexy Money is back and off to a good start.
Life on Mars is good. Check it out.
On my pass list, Knight Rider, 90210 and America’s Toughest Jobs.
There are still more new shows to cover like Fringe, The Mentalist, Gary Unmarried and all of the cable shows.
