BARACK, RUSH & SARAH
OBAMA
Our hearts go out to Barack Obama as he puts campaigning on hold to spend a few days with his critically ill grandmother. Everyone, regardless of where they stand on the election, should take a moment to acknowledge the sadness of this moment. One can only imagine the valley of heartbreak that our potential next President is living in right now. Going through a health crisis with an aging loved one is devastating enough on its own, but Barack is going through it while carrying the hopes of the nation on his shoulders. My already high admiration for this strong man, this true and dedicated public servant, has just shot way up into the stratosphere.
RUSH’S RED HERRING!
Note to Rush Limbaugh and all other race-bating conservative Republicans: Colin Powell did not endorse Barack Obama because Obama is black. He did it because he knows that John McCain will continue President Bush’s failed policies (which, let’s face it, are why Powell left the White House after Bush’s first term), because he thinks Sarah Palin represents a bad judgment call on McCain’s part and because he disapproves of the dishonorable, dishonest, divisive, hatemongering attacks that the right wing has been throwing at Obama. Rabble rousers like Rush have to try to dilute Gen. Powell’s endorsement because Powell could, by virtue of the respect he commands among Americans of every stripe, win over lots of undecided voters. So, Rush et al are trying to create a false race issue here in hopes that people will get distracted away from the facts.
But, I dare say most Americans feel rather like Gen. Powell. That’s why Obama continues to lead in the polls and why, come November 4, he will become our next President.
PALIN THE PUNCHLINE
Oh, and speaking of Sarah Palin… I find it remarkable that she flew to New York to appear in some goofy Saturday Night Live skits but she still won’t hold a news conference, or appear on network news shows like Meet the Press, Face the Nation or This Week. Palin won’t even go on The View. And she actually wants us to take her seriously as a candidate for the second-highest office in the U.S. government. Sarah Palin’s a joke. No wonder she’s got an even higher negative rating than Dan Quayle.
Thanks for listening. I’m Cameron Turner and that’s my two cents!
