A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE

She told me she killed someone.

She wanted off of work, so she told her boss that her aunt passed away. She got a week off of work with pay and got travel down to Florida to see her favorite rapper perform during Spring Break. That wasn’t all she got, because 2 weeks later, after returning to work with a fake face of mourning she found out her aunt really did die from cancer.

She should have been more cautious of her words, because as John Addison once said “Words, have so great a force in them, that a description often gives us more lively ideas than the sight of things themselves.”

Maybe someone should have told that to John McCain. In the past 2 weeks as our economy has fallen faster than Kimbo Slice in his last fight, McSame has been trying to pin Barack Obama to former domestic terrorist and current college professor Bill Ayers. With claims that Obama has been ‘pallin around with terrorists,’ rural white residents have literally been calling for Obama’s head, shouting terrorist, treason and kill him at McCain/Palin rallies.

Mr. McCain: Do you know know the history of the country you claim to love? Do you not understand that a man you have great respect for, Rep John Lewis, had his skull cracked open in a non-violent protest because of same rhetoric that your campaign is now spewing in a pathetic attempt to get yourself elected?

On Saturday, John Lewis reminded the world of the dangers of this type of rhetoric by saying. “George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights,” said Lewis, in his statement. “Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama.”

Even Republicans are coming out to reject and denounce this new campaign strategy of Mr. McCain. Republicans like Frank Schaeffer who tried to get McCain elected instead of Bush in 2000 have come out to get McCain to change his tone by writing: “If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as “not one of us,” I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence.”

He hit a grand slam with his piece in the Baltimore Sun adding “John McCain and Sarah Palin, you are playing with fire, and you know it. You are unleashing the monster of American hatred and prejudice, to the peril of all of us… You are doing this in a country with a history of assassinations.”

McCain: “You just got served” by your own party.

To McCain’s credit he is now trying to back away from the nasty politics of the last 2 weeks and for that I applaud him. Hopefully the rest of this election will be played on the higher ground of the politics of change, because America has an ugly history of violence that I never want to see again.

Pay Attention, and please go out to vote like you’re going to the club… with a car full of friends.

Deep. McCain will be known by these hateful words he is speaking from now on. I think he realizes that and is having second thoughts.
John Lewis called him out tough. I actually wish he had stood firm by that remark but he made another announcement where he soft peddled it a little. Lewis I mean. But still, the point was made!

Words are crucial indeed Xilla. Because they can incite action. McCain knows this. Frankly I think he is doing too little too late. Did you see that woman call Obama an Arab at that ralley? McCain knows he went down a bad bad path.

I really want to see what he tries to pull out of the hat at this next debate. Is he going to try to come hard or check himself like he checked his own audience?

John Lewis evoking the four little girls brings it all home. I think all McCain’s hate speech is going to back fire on him. The majority of whites in 2008 don’t want to be associated with it. I truly believe they all have racist priviledged residue but they are not card carrying klansmen who want to see somebody hurt. Am I just naive?

McCain has campaigned that he is the man for change but he is just showing us he is not. He is using the same underhanded politics and campaign strategy that the GOP has used before. He’s even using a Bush move by using fear to get people to do what he wants. He should be very ashamed.

October 13th, 2008 at 12:36 pm buttabrown says:

I can’t say I was shocked by his comments and those of his core audience. I am getting more and more afraid for Obama as we get closer to the election. The idea of a black man representing this country is still so horrible for some people to think about, and they just may take some violent action. Let’s keep our prayers surrounding him, ya’ll

I think that white people have been watching from the sidelines, interested and supportive of obama. now that its an actual reality that the guy can be our president, the gloves, fears and insecurities are going to come pouring out. the last time that happened, the klan was born.

Obama ain’t got it locked yet this hate speech still helps them get votes

October 13th, 2008 at 5:39 pm heatmizer says:

I am still the constant skeptic. it has looked this good for the democrats before (kerry) and then all went to hell. Anything can happen in these last desperate days. I agree, McCain and his people have crossed the line with the “baiting” but it really highlights another truth. Those people were hungry to “let the dogs out”

Words always take a certain toll on people and majorly in politics. And even though actions speak louder than words, yet sometimes words just have a power among them that cannot be taken away. When Hater McCain speaks, his words does not have the same appreciation and empowerment that they should. Xilla, by bringing the community together for entertainment as well as politics gives every voice in the community to be heard. Again, words are powerful when appreciation can be valued. To McCain, Hi hater, I’m A.n.g.e.l., nice to meet you…

every time an election rolls around there is a frenzy to get people to vote, and rightly so. But I’m telling you, its all about the electoral college that determines everything. They have us duped for real. They will find a way to make sure white man wins. Period.

October 14th, 2008 at 2:28 pm Tina says:

It just won’t make sense if McCain wins. This is how I felt when Bush won the last election and look at where most of us are now. It is a shame that we even have to worry that McCain might win.
