Random Acts Of Hotness

I had the hardest time deciding on a theme for this week. Do I go with remixes, posse cuts, 11th grade, neo-soul or what? So obviously, I copped out and just picked random videos. I apologize, but me being mad indecisive happens…often…like a lot. Anyway, hope you enjoy the randomness. Next week, I should have a theme ready to go. More than likely. Holla and go Mariners!

GANGSTARR FEAT. NICE & SMOOTH | “DWYCK”
“And pure knowledge expands from my esophagus. I write in the night to bring truth to the light. My dialogue is my own, cause Smooth B. will never bite.” I hate to be Bitter-Can’t-Leave-The-90’s 30 Year Old Guy, but that’s just some real live authentic hip hop right there. Oh yeah, there are about three or four chicks in this video that should’ve been my first ex-wife.

DIGITAL UNDERGROUND | “KISS YOU BACK”
“Freak me girl and I’ll freak you back.” Doesn’t this song make you wanna go out and plant a big fat wet one on the first person you see? Ok maybe not the FIRST person you see, but you get my point. By the way, anyone know who the honey with the light eyes and short haircut is? I’d like to see her shimmy her cocoa pops.

ICE CUBE | “CHECK YO SELF”
“Hold a fifty. I’m nifty. Pow. Got a new style.” Yes, another Ice Cube video. You got a problem with that?!? No? Cool. Like commenter Ken Boston said last week, who could’ve predicted that Cube would star in kiddie movies? He was so hard in ’93!

SUPERCAT FEAT. THIRD EYE, PUFF & BIGGIE | “DOLLY MY BABY”
A few weeks ago, my labelmate Destah predicted that I would eventually post this track. Well, here you go. Few observations. Supercat and Biggie were dope, of course. Puff was atrocious squared. And Third Eye? Um yes, thanks for playing, we have some lovely parting gifts for you. Actually, because you suck they’re really not all that lovely.

And now…for something a little cosmic.

JAMIROQUAI | “RETURN OF THE SPACE COWBOY”
Oh Jay Kay. I don’t know what manner of dance it is that you’re doing, but keep on keeping on pimpin’. I guess the spirit moves us all in different ways. Very different ways. At any rate, this arrangement is different from the album version but the song still rocks. Jamiroquai never puts out a wack product. What about Synkronized, you say? That album was never recorded, so it doesn’t count.

i’m not a fan of nuna these - ‘cept the joint w/ big.
cube was better when he was harder. the guerillas in the mist stuff was the juice.
the dasfx stuff = wash.
digital underground - whatever. not the best representation of da west. gangstarr - ugh. not the best representation of the east.
i dunno who the white boi is.

“Gangstarr - ugh. Not the best representation of the east.”

I don’t even know how to respond to that. I just-I have no words. That’s not even something I can argue. That’s like trying to argue with someone that says, “You know, the price of gas really isn’t that high.” To each his own, I suppose:)

I’ve extolled the virtues of Supercat before. This dude needs to be on someone’s track.

C’mon Diallo, Early gangstarr was the bizness but Gurus jazz stuff after the first one got repetititive and then when they got back together it was never quite the same. Plus KamalP is young, He is used to Lil Wayne type spitfire, punchline raps (nothing wrong with it). Guru is from a different time that I BARELY EVEN RECALL. I can’t knock the younger gen for not feeling him.

No only was supercat talented but fiiinnnee

June 30th, 2008 at 2:00 pm Diallo Tyson says:

@Chica
I can’t knock him. Like I said, I can’t even get into an argument with him. From ‘88 to ‘98? Gangstarr was the joint. Dwyck is a classic. These points can’t be argued. If a cat is too young to appreciate it, that’s cool. I may be too young to fully appreciate The Brothers Johnson. That’s cool too. But I can’t debate whether Gangstarr sufficiently represents the east. I’ll seriously go crazy:)

Stop the madness. Guru and Premiere were giving up the hot beats and rhymes from jump!!

I’m with you 90’s guy! “Lemonade was a popular drink and it STILL is…”. I see you flexin’ your alternative-Berkeley-euro-hip-hop-guy with the Jamiroquai. His stuff is always funky. Gotta love the moving floors in the Virtual Insanity video.
Good lookin’ out on the Supa Cat. My boy and I almost burned his mama’s house down when we left a skillet full of hot grease and plantains on in the kitchen as we were in rewinding the VCR repeatedly to look at ol’ girl in the white. Good times! LOL
