R. Kelly: Let The Trial Begin!

R. Kelly is finally on trial! The R&B superstar is charged with 14 counts of child pornography for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with a girl as young as thirteen years old, then urinating in the child’s face.

The 41-year-old has plead not guilty, and faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Over the last six years, I have spoken out and led protests against R. Kelly at his Los Angeles concerts, as well as the NAACP Image awards. This is an organization that had the audacity to nominate a pedophile for an “image” award in 2005.

So, the fact that I led a protest against R. Kelly outside the courthouse on Friday morning in Chicago came as no surprise to anyone that has followed this saga. I have been the target of hate e-mail and criticism by R. Kelly’s management and his ghetto supporters who claim the Kelly is innocent and deserves his day in court.

I believe Kelly is guilty. However, I agree that he deserves his day in court. We have waited six long years for this day. If he was really innocent, and wanted to clear his name, he wouldn’t have allowed his high-priced legal team of lawyers to drag this out for several years with delay after delay.

My criticism of Kelly (I deem him the “world’s greatest pedophile”) begins from the fact that he married the late R&B singer Aaliyah in 1995, when she was just 15 years old. The couple’s marriage certificate was published in “Vibe Magazine” and newspapers world wide. The marriage was later annulled by her parents. Is it just me, or does anyone else feel that it is wrong for a grown man to marry and have sex with a 15 year-old?

Over the years, Kelly also has settled at least four out of court settlements in Chicago with other underage teens and their families for undisclosed amounts of cash.

No one can dispute that R. Kelly is a musical genius. But, he has a proven track record of being a pedophile. If black men can’t stand up and defend our children and family from sexual predators, who do we expect to do this for us?

R. Kelly needs to brought to justice and locked up. His fame will not save or help him in prison if he’s convicted. Kelly will be washing someone’s socks and drawers if he’s put away. I don’t have any sympathy for Kelly or other child molesters. I have waited six years for Kelly to be brought to justice. Let the trial begin!

The whole ordeal is a disgusting display of incompetence on the part of the authorities. The fact that millions of people continue to support this guy’s music is the most disgusting of all.

Every man should have his day in court. But the evidence that’s available to the public is pretty overwhelming against this guy.

Something organized needs to be done to keep the trial at the forefront because it keeps fading away and I keep forgetting and I agree that he is most likely guilty.

Any full grown man knows that there is NOTHING and NO REASON why ANY MAN should EVER BE near or around or friends with or chillin with or just talking to ANY THIRTEEN, FOURTEEN, FIFTEEN year old kid EVER. Unless you are her FATHER, BROTHER, etc. This cat has used ever excuse in the book to rationalize always being around young girls. “It wasn’t me.” “It was a misunderstanding.”
Nah, bro, you sick, man. You need help.

On second thought. Bump help. Lock his ass up and throw away the key! This sh*t pisses me off.

this dude is a joke. he needs professional help. he needs to own up to his sins and face the charges like a man. black folks stood by him even when it was clear he was a sick puppy. i hope for once, justice gets served. najee always goes to the heart of it!!

May 12th, 2008 at 2:07 pm culturepop says:

he is so right. if black men can’t stand up for our children, who will? our people so busy shaking their butts to his music, they could care less about the man and what he has done to little girls. i dont’ care how mature you are, if an older, superstar man approaches you, you don’t have the capacity to make an informed choice! she was a baby! if that was my child, i’d have this sicko under the jail. where is the black outrage?

May 12th, 2008 at 2:09 pm allison says:

I can not believe it has taken 6 yrs for him to go to trial. I saw the tape and it is him! It is more than sick he is a drug addict and pervert. I couldn’t believe it when the NAACP gave him an award. Is that what we stand for? This really makes me mad.

May 12th, 2008 at 2:12 pm Ellene Miles says:

najee, you are so right. as a black woman, i’m hurt beyond belief. seems like we just dont care anymore. he needs to be prosecuted for these acts. its just not right to make money, continue being a pervert and not have to pay the piper.
